Samuel S. Snow
Millerite preacher who in August 1844 proposed the October 22, 1844 date.
Samuel Sheffield Snow was a Millerite preacher. At a camp meeting in Exeter, New Hampshire, in August 1844 he presented what became known as the seventh-month message, which argued from the Jewish ritual calendar that Christ would return on the tenth day of the seventh month, calculated as October 22, 1844.
Miller accepted the date in early October, and the idea spread rapidly through the movement's newspapers. Snow's later life is documented in less detail than Miller's.
